Larval Mosquito Surveillance

The City’s Catch Basin Mosquito Control Crew begins monitoring municipal catch basins in mid-May to confirm the presence of mosquito larvae. There are upwards of 7500 catch basins within Kelowna city limits which provide ideal breeding habitat for potential vector mosquito species, such as Culex pipiens. Larval surveillance of catch basins continues throughout the summer to monitor efficacy of larvicide treatments and larval presence.
