Public Education

The Catch Basin Mosquito Control Crew’s public education campaign focuses on personal protection from mosquito bites and reduction of vector mosquito breeding areas around the home. Reducing mosquito breeding areas can be as simple as regularly emptying water from wheel barrows, plant pots, bird baths, eaves troughs and old tires. For more information on the West Nile virus, backyard source reduction and personal protection during mosquito season, visit West Nile - IHA.

The crew does door-to-door education in residential areas, attends community events and kids camps and will have a booth set up each Wednesday at the Kelowna Farmers’ and Crafters’ Market.

The Catch Basin Mosquito Control Crew is easily recognized by their distinctive Fight the Bite apparel. The design for these was adapted from a similar public education program based in Colorado.
