Cedar Avenue
What's Next?
On June 20, Council decided to implement a new area planning and public engagement process for redevelopment of the Cedar Avenue.
Previous bylaws concerning the property were rescinded and staff will return to Council at a future date with Terms of Reference for the public engagement process. Budget will be given consideration later this year.
History
The Cedar Avenue Area was designated in 2004 to create a vibrant mixed-use district within the Cedar Avenue neighbourhood in the South Pandosy Town Centre.
The City of Kelowna currently owns eleven waterfront lots in the central part of the area. These lots are designated for a mix of park and commercial uses.
The land use strategy calls for:
- Development of West Avenue Park
- Street beautification along Abbott Street
- Mixed-use commercial development along Cedar Avenue.
- Waterfront tourist commercial site
- Waterfront walkway (approximately two acres)
- Upgraded interface between Fascieux Creek and Lake Okanagan
Recent redevelopment plan for Cedar Avenue was not successful and will be subject to a public planning process in the near future.
