Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs
The City and the Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs have had a long standing relationship for over 47 years, beginning in 1959 when the Kelowna Boys Clubs was first founded by local residents. Since that time, the City has provided facilities and funding for Boys and Girls Clubs operations in Kelowna.
The Clubs provide recreation and social services to children, youth and families who traditionally do not access municipal recreation programs, with a particular focus on disadvantaged and at risk children, youth and families. Programs support healthy physical, educational and social development for skill development, active living and recreation.
Youth Centres may also provide meals, family support programs, emergency shelter and other supports to children and youth at risk.
The programs and community services provided by the Clubs are a significant component of the overall delivery system for Active Communities.
Management Agreement In 2008, the City established a new Management and Operating Agreement with Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs for five years, with an option of renewal for an additional five year term. Key components of this agreement are for the Clubs to lease the facilities, a license to use a portion of Cameron Park, and to provide community programs and services through the management of the facility leases.
