The City of Kelowna offers a plan for you to pay next year's property taxes in instalments by automatic monthly withdrawal from your bank account.
How it works
- All outstanding property taxes must be paid in full prior to joining the plan.
- Monthly payments will be withdrawn from your bank account on or after the tenth day of each month starting in July and ending in May.
- There is no withdrawal taken from your bank account in the month of June.
- You are responsible to make the final payment and, if eligible, claim the Home Owner Grant by the tax due date to avoid penalties.
- An annual tax notice, mailed to you in mid-May each year, will show your current year's taxes less the total prepayments and interest earned.
Monthly payment amount
- Your monthly payment amount is an estimate based on 1/12 of your last year’s net tax payable. The amount of your regular monthly payment for the year will be included on your annual tax notice.
- Automatic withdrawals start July 10th and continue to May 10th, for a maximum of 11 consecutive prepayments. There is no withdrawal taken from your bank account in the month of June. Note: It is your responsibility to make the final payment.
|
|
Notification: Each month the City of Kelowna will notify your financial institution of the amount of the withdrawal. Note: The City does not charge for this service; however, your financial institution may make a charge for your withdrawal, depending on the type of account you have.
Important: If a withdrawal is not honoured by your financial institution, for any reason, your tax account will be charged a return item fee of $20. |
|
Interest
- Interest is earned on the payments applied to your property taxes each month until May 31.
- This interest is credited to your property tax account.
- Simple interest will be paid on your prepayments at the Royal Bank prime rate less three per cent.
- Interest is considered a tax discount by Canada Revenue Agency and is tax free.
Authorizing Your Final PAWS Payment
- To authorize your final PAWS payment online log onto Property Tax eServices
. You will need to know your Roll Number and your Access Code; both are located on the top right hand corner of your Property Tax Notice. Note: Your final payment will be withdrawn from your bank account on the property tax due date.
OR
- Payment can be made at most financial institutions in Canada (in person, by Telephone banking, or Internet banking), credit unions, by mail or in person at City Hall. Mail early to avoid penalty. Post-dated cheques are accepted.
|
|
Important: Provincial Legislation requires that any current taxes that remain outstanding after the due date shall be assessed a penalty. To avoid this penalty, taxpayers must ensure that any balance remaining outstanding on their tax account (after installments and Home Owner Grant have been applied), is paid in full by the tax due date. |
