Recreation, Leisure & Open Spaces
After climate and weather, recreation, leisure and cultural pursuits were the second most mentioned thing that makes Kelowna a liveable city. In general, people are as involved as they want to be in recreation and leisure pursuits. However, there were some gaps in desired versus current involvement. Younger age groups in particular experienced gaps in desired involvement in sports and recreational pursuits.
The most popular pursuits residents were currently involved in were sports programs (23.3%) and recreation programs (21.2%).

ParksPeople most often utilized Kelowna’s parks and green spaces on a weekly basis (45.2%). About one quarter utilized them on a monthly basis (23.5%). There were no significant differences by area of Kelowna for parks and green space utilization. Younger people utilized parks and green space more often than older age groups.

Priorities for the acquisition of additional park lands
If the City were to purchase additional park lands people would most like to see lands purchased for paths and trails (69%).  Younger people were more likely to want paths and trails and recreation parks. Older age groups were more likely to want neighbourhood parks. By area of the City, Black Mountain residents were less likely to want to see additional waterfront parks lands.
