1. How can I find out who owns a specific property?

The owner of a property is listed on a document called the property title. Property titles for the Thompson Okanagan region can be accessed, for a fee, at the Land Title Office in Kamloops external_link_12.png. The City of Kelowna does not provide this service.

2. Where can I get a survey showing property lines?

Registered survey plans (for the Thompson Okanagan region) showing property lines are available at the Land Title Office external_link_12.png. Survey certificates can be completed for a fee by any BCLS external_link_12.png (British Columbia Land Surveyor).

For a rough estimate of the placement of property lines, see our  interactive map of Kelownaonline icon. Select view lot lines (option available under Layers > Base Map > Lots) and click Refresh Map.

4. How does BC Assessment assign a value to my house?

BC Assessment external_link_12.png is an independent, provincial crown corporation, accountable to the Government of BC. Their responsibility is to determine the market value of land and improvements and enter the values on the Assessment Roll.

To determine what a property would sell for, an assessor takes into account any factors that might affect the property's value including:

        • age
        • condition
        • location
        • replacement cost
        • rental income
        • size
        • shape
        • sales of comparable properties in the area
        • topography

BC Assessment's e-Value Assessments Comparison external_link_12.png application allows you to view and compare current assessments.

5. How do I contract my services (appraisers, realtors, negotiators) to the City?

The City of Kelowna's Purchasing Department advertises Requests for Proposals (RFP's) in the classified section of the local newspapers (the Kelowna Daily Courier external_link_12.png and the Kelowna Capital News external_link_12.png). Generally, the request is for a fixed term. All received proposals are assessed in an unbiased fashion, and the City selects the proposal that best suits their needs.

For more information on bidding, visit our Bidding Procedures webpage.

6. Where do I find out about the availability of City owned rental properties?

Once a rental property is acquired by the Real Estate Services branch, it is turned over to the Property Management branch. The Property Management branch rents out residential and commercial properties, numerous moorages and concessions, and runs the sidewalk seating program. All available rental properties are advertised online.
