Background
The City of Kelowna purchased two residential properties north of Rotary Beach Park in order to extend the boundaries of the park. These two properties have added .83 acres to the park and an additional 42 lineal metres of water frontage.
In 2009, the City removed the homes on both properties, as well as two private moorage docks that extended into the lake. Landscape improvements included irrigated turf, shade trees and additional sand beach.
Waterfront acquisition and access have been identified as high priories in all of the citizen surveys of the past five years. Waterfront parks are well used in Kelowna by families with children, wind surfers and the less mobile. Tourist and commercial development in the area has also increased the demand for waterfront access.
