Kelowna Fire Department

The goal of the Kelowna Fire Department is to provide realistic and effective fire protection and public safety services to all areas of the City of Kelowna. This includes fire prevention, fire safety inspections, fire control and/or suppression.
The Kelowna Fire Department operates from seven fire stations located strategically throughout the City. Each has a full compliment of modern, up-to-date vehicles and equipment. There are 103 full time personnel and 60 paid-on-call volunteers.
In 2008 the department responded to over 10,385 calls including 3,643 alarms, structural, vehicle and chimney fires, and motor vehicle accidents; 4,885 medical first responder calls and a number of rescue and hazardous materials incidents.
The dispatch centre, which handles 9-1-1 calls for all fire departments within the Regional District of the Central Okanagan, processed 18,011 incidents in 2008 resulting in approximately 205,100 radio and telephone transactions.
The Department’s full-time personnel promote public safety year-round, through fire inspections and public education programs like Fire Prevention Week. Trained volunteer firefighters contribute greatly to emergency efforts in outlying areas of the City.
